Why Fashion Shows Are Important

The bright lights, the flashy clothes, the whole runway scene is what many live for but some may question is a fashion show really THAT important? If you are new to the world of fashion, it’s understandable to question its importance.

Let us at AMCONYC give you our top 3 reasons why fashion shows are LIFE.

Learning Fashion Trends

Fashion shows create a platform to connect designers to their consumers.

They are regularly put on to express and unveil to an audience the recent fashion trends. Though trends and styles keep changing between the seasons, it’s the job of the designers to create or in many cases recreate looks that will be the ‘IT’ looks for the season.

Having a fashion show as a brand or designer is major to the success of the company. They help highlight the direction that their fashion stance is headed thus creating pathways for smaller designers and boutiques to take note of when choosing items to sell.

These shows are a place where designers are allowed to be as creative and eccentric as they want when it comes to showing off their clothes. Most of the time, some of the clothes that are shown are not things that one would typically wear on a day out; but, what fun is there in fashion if you’re not allowed to let loose and let the clothes speak for themselves?

It Allows Designers To Be Vocal About Issues

Fashion is all about self-expression and using such platforms like runway shows are perfect for creating awareness on issues that resonate with designers that they hope to convey to their brand. Whether it is political, social, or even religious, it allows consumers to connect with not only the clothing but the designer themselves.

Designers can also make a change that can open up topics of discussion such as being inclusive with models of a difference race, age, sexual orientation, size, and/or religion.

Fashion shows do not just stop at the end of a catwalk. They are continuing to create platforms soaring above and beyond just the clothes.

It’s a Part of Our Daily Lives

Whether we realize it or not, our daily lives do revolve around fashion. From what we wear to work, the outfit we choose for a night out, even down to what we wear to the gym. There have been lines for virtually everything.

Even if we don’t all buy designer fashion, the clothing we wear is and was created by designers much like the ones orchestrating big runway shows.

If you are like Andy from The Devil Wears Prada and think that fashion has nothing to do with you, think again. Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestley in the film said it best in response to Andy’s snickering towards the stylists deciding between two similar belts.

“It’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.”
